This comfortable unit is a cozy studio with its own private entrance and is just minutes from Sangubashi station. The train does run right past the house but the double glazing and insulation of this brand new house means that this will not interfere with your comfort.

** Bedding **

1 x Full sized double bed comfortably fits two adults

A portable cot/crib is also available for toddlers or babies.

** Services & Amenities **

The whole studio is self contained with your own private entrance, kitchenette, washing machine, dryer and unit bathroom. There is a door between our house and the studio but this is locked with a key during your stay. Unless you need us, we will not disturb you.

The kitchenette is equipped with a gas burner, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, rice cooker, fridge, kettle, pans, cooking utensils, plus crockery and cutlery for 2 people. We include complimentary coffee and tea.

There are always plenty of clean linens and towels. All essentials like soap, shampoo & conditioner, toilet paper, towels and linens are included. All you need to bring are your clothes and personal items. You will have full private use of the studio and this is professionally cleaned between guests. If you would like a cleaning and linen service mid-stay, let us know and we can arrange this for a fee.

There is a small table and chairs so you can sit to eat or and relax or lie in bed to enjoy the entertainment systems we have included.High-speed internet is inside the house and a portable WiFi unit is also available for you to carry around town to navigate with your favourite map program. We have cable TV with English language stations as well an AppleTV is included so you can easily stream from your smart phone or laptop over WiFi through the TV. Or log into your own iTunes or Hulu or Netflix account and watch on-demand TV and movies.

There is some space for luggage however if you have large amounts of luggage or ski gear it might be best to ship these directly to your ski resort using a baggage service - cheap and reliable in Japan.

There is a fully equipped kitchenette, washing machine, dryer, bathroom with bath, shower and vanity and everything you need for a relaxing stay.

If traveling with children, we can also recommend a wonderful English speaking babysitter who can take care of your little ones in the house while you experience the bright lights of the big city or romantic dinner.

** Interaction with guests **

We are an Australian family of 3. Our son is 8 years old. This unit is contained within our own home. We live upstairs but this unit is completely private with its own entrance. We often have weekend BBQ's on the roof and we invite guests to join but this is completely up to them. Mostly we will be just going to and from school and work.

We love living in this area and we will personally greet you and show you around and how to use everything inside the unit. Let us know if you need anything and we will happily accommodate most requests.

We have also included a selection of novels and travel brochures, walking maps and a Lonely Planet for you to use during your stay. We are happy to recommend out of the way places and local knowledge of our combined 20 years living in Tokyo.

** Neighbourhood **

The supermarket and the 24 hour convenience store are only a minute away and there is an amazing bakery on the shopping street that is open early for fresh morning baked goods.

The house is in a safe and convenient cul-de-sac street. The streets are fairly typical of suburban Tokyo and some urban hiking reveals interesting architecture as well as many green spaces.

On days when you want to stick close to home, the neighbourhood bustles with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and other amenities. There is a grocery store nearby perfect for stocking breakfast and for snacks, we suggest any of the nearby convenience stores which are open 24 hours.

We've drawn up a neighborhood map to help you find what you need.

** Transport **

Sightseers love the location. Enjoy a 15 minute stroll through Central (Chuo) Park to the Tokyo Metropolitan Building with its free observatory and tourist office.

A short 5 minute walk leads you to the quiet gardens of Meiji Shrine and Harajuku's funky shopping streets and beyond to Omotesando, the Champs-Élysées of Tokyo.

Yoyogi park is only a 5 minute stroll away. This is perfect for walking or jogging in all seasons.

Shinjuku station itself is around a 15-20 minute walk.

Sangubashi Station (Odakyu Line) is less than a 2 minute walk. From this station in one direction will send you on adventures toward Shinjuku or in the other to the funky Shimokitazawa. Plus there are buses to Shinjuku and Shibuya stations within minutes of the front door.

Hatsudai (New Keio Line) is about a 8 minute walk toward the Opera City complex and the National Theatre.

Walk 12 minutes to Yoyogi Station to either JR or Oedo subway and you can catch a train for any of these locations:

Shinjuku: 2 minutes

Shibuya: 5 minutes

Roppongi: 7 minutes

Ginza: 17 minutes

Akihabara: 17 minutes

Ueno: 24 minutes

Tsukiji: 26 minutes

Asakusa: 26 minutes

The Hachiko Bus is a community bus that meanders through Shibuya city and Omote Sando. At ¥100 it is a cheap and easy way to see Shibuya area beyond the lights of the shopping area.

The Keio bus #51 is a direct bus to Shibuya station and takes just 10-15 minutes.

The Japan Sword Museum is a nearby and worth a visit if you are interested in weapons, history, or smithing. There are some truly beautiful blades on display.

Younger guests may enjoy the free pony rides every day at the Tokyo Equestrian Center a short walk away near the entrance to the Meiji Shrine gardens.

** Getting Here **

After you have confirmed your booking, a PDF will be emailed to you with all of the best options for getting into Tokyo from either airport or from other cities around Japan.

From Narita airport, take a limousine bus or Narita Express train to Shinjuku and it is a ¥1,000 yen taxi ride from there if you have lots of luggage. If you travel light, hop on the Odakyu local for two stops to Sangubashi for about ¥150.

** Other things to note **

When you make the booking, we will send you a welcome pack with lots of transport information and confirm a convenient meeting time and location to ensure you will be able to settle in quickly.

If you have any questions about our listings or Tokyo in general, please just ask.

The short answer is sadly no.
Many of the larger train stations have lockers big enough for a full size suitcase. Shinjuku Station has plenty of large coin lockers.

Alternatively, we recommend you use a baggage shipping service. Japan has a few companies to choose from - just do a web search for "Takkyubin Japan" to find the most commonly used companies. These are very reasonably priced, safe and extremely reliable. If you ship your luggage from the airport, you can move about the city easily and have your luggage delivered directly to the house at a time convenient for you.

We will send this to you a few weeks before your arrival date. Please print off the Welcome pack in case you don’t have internet access when you first arrive.

Closer to your arrival we will be in contact to arrange a suitable time and place to meet with you. It will either be one of us or a trusted friend or relative. We will meet you, hand over the keys, run through the facilities of the apartment and also give you a tour of the local area if time allows.

Our houses always have a variety of bedding options but we do not advise trying to squeeze in more than the maximum number of people on the listing. We want you to be comfortable and there are restrictions on the number of people who can sleep for safety reasons.

The hosts were lovely people! Very easy to communicate with and they went above and beyond to welcome us to Tokyo. They thought of everything you’d need as a traveler, including portable WiFi and charging for your phones. The studio was small but had everything we needed. Great location, easy to walk to the center of Tokyo. Highly recommend!' 'Thank you so much for letting us stay! It was lovely to meet you, thank you for your hospitality - it was above and beyond! 'Cozy apartment in a good location! Located in a quiet area with easy access to both Shibuya and Shinjuku via bus or train. Delightful North Cottage apartment

The North Cottage place was the perfect little apartment for our stay in Shibuya. Seconds away from shops and restarts and the Sangubashi station. The apartment was clean & neat and they offered amazing tips on the area, since we are from out of the country. A perfect location and very communicative and helpful hosts!'

Clean & tidy cottage with excellent location.

We had a great time staying in north cottage, it’s a great space with all of the amenities that you’ll need while staying in Tokyo and the neighbourhood is great. It’s got lots of shops for stocking up, and good places to eat and drink but it’s a quiet residential area, it’s a few minutes walk away from the nearest train station and you can be in the middle of the busiest places in Tokyo in next to no time. It’s also a short walk to Yoyogi park and the Meiji shrine, where you can feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside, before you get to the other side and the craziness of Harajuku. North cottage was clean, the shower is good and the bed is comfortable and it was a good place to relax. There is a train line running not far from the cottage but you don’t really notice the trains and the noise didn’t disturb us or stop us sleeping, if you are sensitive to noise there’s a roller shutter on the windows and a noise absorbing blind on the door but we didn’t need to use them. The host made us feel very welcome when we arrived and when we did see the hosts around they were full of helpful tips about what was happening in the area. We hoe to return here when we come back to stay in Tokyo

Loved the apartment

'We highly recommend staying at North Cottage! The hosts are super hospitable, and they provide great tips and local suggestions (also outlined in a convenient package they make available during your stay). This is perfect for those who are new to Japan, but their kind and helpful nature can be appreciated by experienced and inexperienced alike. Their location is convenient as well, with quick access to the nearby station and lots of amenities. The home itself is lovely and well-supplied. We had a great time and would love to stay with them again!' 'Thank you again for a wonderful stay! You are fantastic hosts. I’m sorry, but I don’t have anything to suggest; we really enjoyed our stay and were thrilled with your hospitality, responses, and great tips. Best of luck!'

Great location

What a great little spot! Quaint area with close walking distance to a station and many goog restaurants, a beautiful park (use to walk to Harajuku, which takes about 10-15 minutes), groceries and more. The host is thoughtful & hospitable with giving guidance on how to use items in the place, mentioning useful tips for touring around town, immediately being available if needed and providing many amenities throughout, Even thinking about the small stuff making it feel a bit like home. We will definitely return on our next trip to Tokyo!
