** Neighbourhood **

It would be hard to get a better location for sightseeing. Enjoy a 10 minute stroll through to all the large department store shopping in Shinjuku East.

The house is in a quiet and safe street but only a few minutes walk from all the fun and funky shops, bars and restaurants in Shinjuku East, Shinjuku ni-chome clubs, Okubo (Korea town), Golden Gai and Kabukicho.

The streets are fairly typical of suburban Tokyo and some urban hiking reveals interesting architecture as well as many green spaces.

On days when you want to stick close to home, the neighbourhood bustles with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and other amenities. There is a grocery store nearby perfect for stocking breakfast and for snacks, we suggest any of the nearby convenience stores which are open 24 hours.

A lovely vegan restaurant is just a block away - vegan food is rare in Japan so if you are a vegan or vegetarian, this will be very useful for you.

We've drawn up a neighborhood map to help you find what you need.

** Transport **

Higashi-Shinjuku station is around 3 minutes walk with the Oedo Subway line and the Fukutoshin subway line. The JR Shinjuku station is about 15 minutes walk or just one stop on the Oedo line.

The short answer is sadly no.

Many of the larger train stations have lockers big enough for a full size suitcase. Shinjuku Station has plenty of large coin lockers.

Alternatively, we recommend you use a baggage shipping service. Japan has a few companies to choose from - just do a web search for "Takkyubin Japan" to find the most commonly used companies. These are very reasonably priced, safe and extremely reliable. If you ship your luggage from the airport, you can move about the city easily and have your luggage delivered directly to the house at a time convenient for you.

Our houses always have a variety of bedding options but we do not advise trying to squeeze in more than the maximum number of people on the listing. We want you to be comfortable and there are restrictions on the number of people who can sleep for safety reasons.

Great value and location

Very happy with our last minute decision to change from a hotel to Manga House. The owners were very quick in confirming our booking and very responsive to our queries. Easy to reach via the train system and we were met at the entrance to the station which was just a few minutes walk to the apartment. Masa gave us a complete guide to the apartment and local area. We had everything we needed, able to do some washing. The staircase between the three levels is small and steep so I wouldn't recommend if you have any sort of mobility problems. There was enough bedding for two adults and our two young teenagers to have a level each. We only had one large suitcase and a small case, anymore than this would have just made it tricky but we would have survived. But definitely no room for ski gear!! Bakery next door sold fab pastries, we were gutted out was closed on our last day, a Sunday. 7-11 just round the corner were we could buy wine and beer to enjoy at the apartment for much less than in the bars!! Getting around Tokyo very easy from the train station close by.

We will be back

We had a great stay at the Manga House. It was perfectly located for us to get around Tokyo with ease. Closest train line is only a couple of minutes walk away. We tried out many of the local restaurants and the bakery downstairs was so convenient. We had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The hosts were very helpful and responsive to my enquiries.

Would recommend and stay again.

This was a great stay and outstanding value. The location is not directly in Shinjuku, but less than a 5 minute walk from Higashi-Shinjuku station (1 stop from the main Shinjuku station). If you are coming from Tokyo station, Higashi Shinjuku can be reached by two different trains. Just remember the brown colored line will get you to Higashi Shinjuku. Location is great, it's on a quiet street and there is a wonderful bakery literally downstairs. You can reach most of the popular Tokyo places from Higashi Shinjuku, or walk about 15 minutes to the main Shinjuku station and area. The actual apartment was a great value - You get a triple floored apartment. It is the most spacious we've had for 4 people and you can comfortably sleep up to 6 people (as long as there isn't too much luggage). Everything was clean and there were all the amenities that we could wanted, and more. The home internet is blazing fast and portable WiFi saved us money as we did not need to get one ourselves or swap for an international SIM card. Overall, great value, spacious place. Would recommend and stay again.

I highly recommend staying here! The location is amazing with two subway lines super close-by, and it was very easy to get all over Tokyo. It had great amenities throughout and we couldn't have asked for more. The bakery (literally) next door was also perfect for breakfast!

Clean and comfortable home

Clean, comfortable with all the amenities we needed. The portable wifi was a life saver finding our way around Tokyo. Three of us stayed so we had a floor each to ourselves, nice to have the extra space. The area is very quiet and the house looks just as good as in the photos. The host is very helpful, good communication and understanding about our delayed arrival. Shower was good and even the sofa beds were comfortable.
