** HIghlights **

Big group? No problem. 3-storeys, 3-BR house conveniently located just a few minutes walk to Shinjuku Central Park, Park Hyatt, Tokyo Metropolitan Buildings and a variety transport options.

This is a newly built house in the unique "pencil" style - tall and thin houses on small parcels of land. Experience Tokyo modern living in one of the world's busiest, and most populated cities.

This brand new house contains 3 bedrooms, spacious kitchen, sitting room and accommodates up to eight guests with options for two more. Or share between two or three couples for a relaxed retreat in Tokyo. We welcome groups and families with children and can provide toys for little ones to keep them entertained at home. This narrow house is big enough for large families and fast fibre WiFi internet for business travelers and heavy gaming teens plus portable WiFi for sightseeing.

Houses in Tokyo are usually only enjoyed by the wealthy and are extremely rare this close to Shinjuku station. See for yourself how Japanese architects can make the smallest patch of land into a comfortable living environment.

** Bedding **

2 x Full sized double bed comfortably fits two adults (1 & 2 BR)

Bunk beds that will suit children or two adults comfortably. (3 BR)

Single sofa bed comfortably fits one adult (LR)

Additional bedding upon request:

Futons for two adults or children;

A portable cot/crib is also available for toddlers or babies.

** Services & Amenities **

There is an eat-in kitchen, washing machine, washlet toilet and a roof balcony offering a lovely view of Shinjuku highrises.

The kitchen is equipped with a gas burner, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, rice cooker, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, pans, cooking utensils, plus crockery and cutlery for 8 people. We include complimentary coffee and tea.

All essentials like soap, shampoo & conditioner, toilet paper, towels and linens are included. All you need to bring is your clothes and personal items. Please note there is only one bathroom and there are stairs to climb inside.

You will have full private use of the house and this is professionally cleaned between guests. There are always plenty of clean linens and towels. If you would like a cleaning and linen service mid-stay, let us know and we can arrange this for a fee.

High-speed WiFi internet is inside the apartment plus a portable WiFi unit is also available for you to carry around town with you. TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs are included. AppleTV is included so you can easily stream from your smart phone or laptop over WiFi through the TV. Or log into your own iTunes or Hulu or Netflix account and watch on-demand TV and movies.

There is some space for luggage in the closet however if you have large amounts of luggage or ski gear it might be best to ship these directly to your ski resort using a baggage service - cheap and reliable in Japan.

If traveling with children, we can also recommend a wonderful English speaking babysitter who can take care of your little ones in the house while you experience the bright lights of the big city or romantic dinner.

We love living in this area and our own house is 2 minutes away. We will personally meet and greet you and show you through the house and how to use everything.

Let us know if you need anything and we will happily accommodate most requests.

** Neighbourhood **

The house is in a quiet and safe street. The streets are fairly typical of suburban Tokyo and some urban hiking reveals interesting architecture as well as many green spaces.

On days when you want to stick close to home, the neighbourhood bustles with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and other amenities. There is a grocery store nearby perfect for stocking breakfast and for snacks, we suggest any of the nearby convenience stores which are open 24 hours. Opera City is two minutes away and this has many restaurants, English pub, French bakery and excellent Japanese restaurants with views from the 40th floor.

The Park Hyatt tower is 2 minutes in the other direction and is also full of Japanese homewares stores and restaurants including the incredible New York Bar and Grill overlooking the city.

We've drawn up a neighborhood map to help you find what you need.

We have also included a selection of novels and travel brochures, walking maps and a Lonely Planet for you to use during your stay. We are happy to recommend out of the way places and local knowledge of our combined 20 years living in Tokyo.

** Transport **

Sightseers love the location. Enjoy a 20 minute stroll through lively Yoyogi Park to the quiet gardens of Meiji Shrine and Harajuku's funky shopping streets and beyond to Omotesando, the Champs-Élysées of Tokyo.

Shinjuku station itself is around 20 minutes walk through Central Park but there are plenty of closer stations to choose from.

Hatsudai station (Keio New Line) is just two minutes walk from the house in the Opera City complex. This is a great station to come home via as there is a supermarket right inside Opera City as well as coffee shops and restaurants.

Walk ten minutes to Yoyogi Station and you can catch a train for any of these locations:

Shinjuku: 2 minutes

Shibuya: 5 minutes

Roppongi: 7 minutes

The Awesome Pencil House

'We arrived in Tokyo not knowing what to expect but this place exceeded our expectations! We felt at home and would highly recommend this house to any other guests. It was conveniently located near a 7/11 and minutes from public transportation. It’s in a very quiet area, which is helpful when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything and enjoy your time in Tokyo. Thank you for being such great hosts!!'

Best house we stayed at while in Japan

Beautiful house with plenty of room and everything we needed, excellent location. The amenities in the house were amazing - everything we could have needed and more. The local station was so close and ther5e were also lots of shops and restaurants there. So close to Shinjuku - only 10/15 mins walk!!

Loved our stay in this cool house

'The Pencil House is a brilliant spot to make a 'home away from home' in Tokyo. Our family of 5 (kids: 9, 7 & 4) had a great 4 night stay here. Everyone slept well (bunk beds always go down well with kids), we loved having the kitchen to get breakfast in and the shower was great & spacious. There were plug sockets all over to charge things from, wifi was brilliant, and there was nothing that we needed that we couldn't find in the place. Its super well located - close to subway, buses and walkable to Yoyogi Park, Shinjuku & more. We explored all over from this base and never had an issue getting around or getting home to it. There's a 7eleven about 2 mins walk away (so easy to grab what you need snack wise) and the closest restaurant fed us well on our first night. Great host - who is super quick in responding to questions. Cant think of a better place to stay in the city.'

Can't wait to come back to the Pencil House

The house is a great and have everything that we need. It’s within walking distance to Hatsudai Station and have lots of convenience stores / restaurants nearby. Shinjuku Station is just one stop away on the train or around 15 mins walking. The location is perfect and we love it! There are 3 rooms, one on the 1st floor (with the bathroom and toilet) and the other 2 rooms are on 3rd floor, perfect for family with 6-7 people. The 2nd floor has a kitchen with all the amenities and also living room. Overall, the house is nice and cozy. The host is really a nice guy. He picked us up on the train station, walked us to the house and shared with us the house manual. He’s also very responsive and friendly, he checked if we enjoy our stay, if we need anything during our stay and always ready if we need any help. It’s our first vacation rental experience and we’re glad that we met a great host! Thank you so much and surely we will be back to Tokyo

Love this house

Staying at The Pencil house provided us with a unique opportunity to see a side of Tokyo we wouldn't have otherwise experienced. The host was fantastic, providing all the information we needed to travel to the house from Haneda and also very accurate information about the local area. His tips varied from where to find a supermarket & great coffee to how to travel to Narita when we were leaving. His instructions as to how everything worked in the house were very clear and we were impressed by his quick response the couple of times we contacted him. The location of the house is brilliant, only 3 minutes walk to Opera City (with lots of restaurants & cafes) & Hatsudai subway station. I would highly recommend the pencil house as the place to base yourself in Tokyo.

Excellent stay in Tokyo

We were 3 friends traveling and had plenty of room in the house, total luxury in Tokyo. The location was great - just one train stop to Shinjuku or a short bus ride to Shibuya. The area was quiet. The house itself was very clean and in excellent shape. Working air conditioning in all rooms and good shower (excellent water pressure!). The Host met us at the apartment and showed us the house and gave nice tips on the area. We would gladly return for another stay. Thanks!

Pencil Fun!

Hosts are very accommodating - It was our first time to Tokyo and we had a late flight in. They made sure we were settled in and any questions we had were answered. We had 4 adults and a healthy amount of space to function as couples and as individuals. The beds were of good size. While at first it felt really narrow, it was something we got used to over time, as with the stairs. It is a pencil house! The place was clean and tidy, with access to do our own laundry, and kitchen - complete with dishwasher. Conveniently located to a 7/11 for any supplies and a generally flat walk to Shinjuku Station. Great communication, Great Neighbourhood, Would definitely stay again! Thanks for a welcoming and safe experience!

Fantastic Tokyo house

The Pencil House is fantastic !! We just spent 10 days there & everything was perfect. We are a family of 4 (2 kids 16 & 11) & had plenty of room. Kids lucky enough to get a room each (top floor) & with us on the ground floor we were all able to have some quiet time. The house was very clean & well equipped with everything we needed. The shower was awesome & us Aussies are very fussy about our showers !! The position is great as it is really close to public transport & food. We used Hatsudai Station everyday & there is a great Supermarket right there and of course the 7/11 is right next door. A big thank you to our host who was there to greet us - we arrived quite late at 10.30pm. He sat with us & gave us lots of information about the house & tips for getting around Tokyo. We absolutely loved our time in Tokyo & hope to return - and hopefully be able to stay at The Pencil House again. :-)
