There is an abundance of space for luggage in the closet however if you have large amounts of luggage or ski gear it might be best to ship these directly to your ski resort using a baggage service - cheap and reliable in Japan.

If traveling with children, we can also recommend a wonderful English speaking babysitter who can take care of your little ones in the house while you experience the bright lights of the big city or romantic dinner.

** The Neighbourhood **

This is a quiet and suburban area that is so close to everything that Tokyo has to offer. Anywhere inside the Yamanote line is considered central Tokyo.

This house is located close to JR Gotanda station, JR Meguro station, JR Shinagawa station. All of these stations have extensive shopping, supermarkets and restaurants to choose from but they are also excellent transport hubs to anywhere in the city quickly.

The closest station is actually the Asakusa subway line Takanawadai station. This is only 4 minutes walk away.

The streets are fairly typical of suburban Tokyo and some urban hiking reveals interesting architecture as well as many green spaces.

On days when you want to stick close to home, the neighbourhood bustles with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and other amenities. There is a grocery store nearby perfect for stocking breakfast and for snacks, we suggest any of the nearby convenience stores which are open 24 hours.

We've drawn up a neighborhood map to help you find what you need.

We love living in Tokyo and our own apartment is a few minutes away. We will personally meet and greet you and show you through the house and how to use everything. Please note that we do not offer self check in.

** Getting here **

After you have confirmed your booking, a PDF will be emailed to you with all of the best options for getting into Tokyo from either airport or from other cities around Japan.

From Narita airport, take the Narita Express train to Shinagawa and it is a ¥1,000 yen taxi ride from there if you have lots of luggage. If you travel light, hop on the Yamanote JR line for two stops to Gotanda for ¥150.

Alternatively, take the Airport Limousine Bus to Shinagawa station.

Family of 10 in Tokyo

The place was great! Just a few minutes walk from multiple subway lines, but in a quiet residential neighborhood. We had a group of 10 and there was lots of sleeping space, but also common space for us all to congregate. The outdoor terrace was particularly nice for sitting in the morning. There are also a lot of local coffee shops and restaurants to help you start and end your day right, on your way to wherever else you're going! The host in particular was very helpful - he checked us in and showed us around, and gave us local recommendations.

Lovely big house!

The host is so nice and friendly. We stayed 10 days with 3 families. The location is great that we can walk to subway in 5mins. And lots of restaurants and shops around.Rooms are clean and good designed, we are happy to stay here again if we are planning to visit Tokyo again. 房东先生非常nice,位置就在车站走路五百米的地方但是非常幽静,附近有很多居酒屋和小店每天晚上都能在家附近逗留好久。良心推荐!

We will be back again.

The place is a large home in central Tokyo with good links to a number of train stations. Big enough to fit our group of 10 comfortably. The Host was prompt with all communications. This was my second time utilising Tokyo Family Stays properties and I would absolutely use them again.

Excellent large house in Gotanda

Great place to stay, comfortable for 8 of us plus a baby. Really close to both the subway and JR station, easy to get wherever we wanted to go. Our host was great, met us at the station and showed us around the house and answered any questions we had. Would definitely stay here again!!

Huge Tokyo Home

Located in a very quiet neighbourhood only 4 mins walk from Takanawadai subway station, this place is perfect for access to Tokyo’s amazing public transport system. Step out the door, and 20 mins later you’ll be walking on Shibuya’s Hachiko Crossing. Shinjuku, Ginza and Tokyo are all within easy reach. Disneyland is only about 40 mins away. All you need is a Suica/Pasmo card and maps. The house is clean and comfortable. It’s also huge. The beds were very comfortable and one particularly impressive aspect was the truly vast amount of house/tourist information laid on by the hosts in their “welcome book” - which was more of a compendium. In addition, the bookshelves and racks were full of maps and pamphlets. The large number of photos on the property page accurately depict the house, including the single bathroom. The hosts are good communicators, and were particularly understanding at check-in when my “noob” navigation error sent us on an express train, kilometres from our intended destination. I’d recommend this place for large groups looking for a base from which to explore Tokyo.

HUGE place

Large, well furnished house in a quiet neighborhood roughly 10 minutes walk from Gotanda station. The house is located in the back of a residential area, so it is very quiet, but also it's a few minutes walk to get to a convenience store, restaurant, or public transit. House was very clean with good amenities and lots of room. It fit the 8 guys in our group with beds to spare and has a nice, open communal area. The host met us at the station to walk us to the house, which made for a very smooth check in experience. A great option for a larger group looking for a peaceful stay in Tokyo!
